Get Knitting: Picking Up Stitches
If you love knitting but dread and avoid picking up stitches, then this class is for you! We will forever banish the anxiety of picking up stitches for borders and trim, collars, sleeves, and more. This hands-on class will walk knitters step-by-step through tools and techniques for picking up stitches along vertical, horizontal, and shaped edges. Methods will include picking up as to knit, picking up as to purl, and using one needles and two needles to pick up stitches. Discussion will include gauge considerations, how to determine the most appropriate method of picking up stitches for your piece, and how to work stitches that lie perpendicular to a picked up edge. Knitted samples and graphics will be provided, along with lots of help. You will be pick up proficient in no time!
NOTE: This class requires pre-work. Instructions will be provided via email prior to the class date. You will not have time in class to knitt pre-work swatches.

Pick it Up Prework
Requirements: | Class pre-work swatches (pre-work will be 3 swatches using size 10 needles and worsted weight yarn - please do not use smaller needles or yarn) Knitting needles you used to knit your pre-work swatch Size 7 or 8 knitting needles (something smaller than you used for your swatch) Several yards of worsted weight yarn (recommend bringing a different color from what you used as your swatches so you can better see your work) A medium sized crochet hook if you have one PICK IT UP AND PRE-WORK INSTRUCTIONS: NOTE: if you do not work your swatches prior to class you will most likely not have time to catch up. Please come prepared with your swatches. Your swatches do not need to be to any particular gauge or even square (in fact, the third one has two different edges). You'll just need the edges to work from. Keep in mind that the looser your swatches are, the easier it will be to see your working stitches and pick up new ones. Feel free to go up needle sizes if you tend to knit very tightly. Swatches Using a size 8 or 10 needle and worsted weight yarn, please knit and bring with you the following three swatches. Please do not use smaller needles or thinner yarn. Bigger on either/both is okay. You will need to be able to clearly see your stitches.
