Methods will include picking up as to knit, picking up as to purl, and using one needle and two needles to pick up stitches. Come play with knitted plaits! Whether you are a confident beginner looking for something new or an experienced knitter trying to bust out of a rut, this class is for you. A plaited stitch in knitting is a stitch that is twisted either clockwise or counterclockwise by manipulating the stitch mount. Plaited stitches can be used as allover patterns or as embellishments, and they create unique surface texture and depth. In this hands-on class, you will learn several techniques for creating plaited stitch patterns in a single yarn color, including ribs, crossed stitches, braids, honeycombs, faux cables, and zig-zags. We will discuss stitch mount, and you will learn several techniques for twisting stitches. We will also examine beautiful examples of plaited stitch projects for inspiration. You should be able to proficiently cast on, knit, and purl. Come prepared to think outside the stitch and be ready to learn something new...even when it might require pointing your needles toward Venus and holding your mouth right. Fair warning: playing with plaits is quite addictive, and you will come away with a plethora of new project plans!

Make your own stitch patterns! This class is excellent for both beginners and experienced knitters who want to up their game. Sequence knitting repeats combinations of stitches row-by-row to create unique, (often) reversible fabrics. If you love knitting textures or are looking for new ideas to combine yarns (especially variegated yarns), this is for you. We will use knits, purls, and a tiny bit of knitting math (no worries - I will help!) to make stitch patterns line up or serpentine across the fabric. We will spend most of the class practicing simple sequences to understand the process and then you will have time to invent your own sequences with the techniques that appeal to you most.

You will learn how to read pattern instructions and abbreviations for shaping along with how to knit the most common types of increases and decreases. This class includes free patterns you can make after you have learned these new skills. Come shape up your knitting!

We will discuss yarn types, weights and fibers, aesthetics, structure (loftiness, hand, drape), gauge, and swatching, as well as how to determine appropriate quantities for your projects and some real life example case studies where yarn was substituted (some that worked, others that did not).
